Cyclical cries of "Painting is dead!" and "Painting is back!" have sounded since the 1970s. Although the painting has certainly been eclipsed by other media for long periods, it has never entirely disappeared, and there is always successive generations of young artists to express themselves mainly through the pigment on canvas.
The pair current shows at Galerie Orh Dea - a solo exhibition of German artist Lars Teichmann and a group exhibition with three young Czech painters, Evžen Simera, and Pavel Zdeněk Trs Vašíček - is an affirmation of belief in the gallery painting is alive and kicking, also demonstrate that the sources of art historical referencing remains a relevant strategy for these young artists.
Dea Orh has been operating for two years on the street in the old city Kozí.For the most part, activity was sporadic exposure while the gallery has focused on the promotion of artists in international art fairs. The first gallery also suffered an identity crisis.
